  • Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they fit snugly without overlapping.

Cooking the Caramel

  • In a medium saucepan, combine butter and brown sugar; cook over medium heat, stirring until melted and boiling.
  • Boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent burning, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

Assembling and Baking

  • Pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the saltine crackers, ensuring all are coated.
  • Bake for 5-7 minutes until the caramel is bubbly and slightly darkened, then remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips.

Finishing Touches

  • Let the chocolate chips sit for 5 minutes to melt, then spread the melted chocolate over the caramel and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
