Ingredients
  

For the Steak:

  • 1 lb flank steak or skirt steak
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Shrimp:

  • 1 lb large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper optional, for a kick
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Tacos:

  • 12-16 small corn or flour tortillas
  • Diced red onion
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Crumbled cotija cheese or feta
  • Avocado slices or guacamole
  • Lime wedges
  • Salsa pico de gallo, salsa verde, or creamy chipotle sauce

Instructions
 

Marinate the Steak

  • Whisk together olive oil, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Add the steak and coat thoroughly, then marinate for at least 15 minutes at room temperature or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator.

Cook the Steak

  • Heat a cast-iron skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Sear the steak for 3-5 minutes per side until desired doneness, then remove, tent with foil, and rest for 5-10 minutes before thinly slicing against the grain.

Prepare the Shrimp

  • If needed, wipe out the skillet. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Toss shrimp with garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper, then cook in the hot pan for 1-2 minutes per side until pink and opaque.

Warm the Tortillas

  • Warm tortillas directly over a gas flame for a few seconds per side until pliable and lightly charred, or wrap in damp paper towels and microwave for 30-60 seconds.

Assemble the Tacos

  • Fill each warm tortilla with steak and shrimp. Top with diced red onion, cilantro, cotija cheese, avocado, a squeeze of lime juice, and your favorite salsa.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the steak overnight. Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to your spice preference. Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the shrimp to ensure even cooking and a nice sear.
