Equipment

  • Whisk
  • Skillet or Griddle

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 slices Thick-sliced bread (Challah, brioche, or Texas toast), preferably stale
  • 1 cup Pumpkin puree (100% pumpkin, not pie filling)
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1/2 cup Milk or cream (whole milk or heavy cream)
  • 1/4 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Pumpkin pie spice
  • Salt Pinch

For Cooking

  • Butter or oil for cooking

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, pumpkin puree, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice, and salt until smooth.

Cooking

  • Dip each bread slice into the mixture, coating both sides for 15-30 seconds, adjusting based on thickness.
  • Melt butter or add oil to a non-stick griddle or skillet over medium heat.
  • Place soaked bread onto the hot griddle without overcrowding, then cook for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.

Serving

  • Transfer the cooked French toast to plates and serve immediately with your favorite toppings.

Notes

For best results, use slightly stale bread as it absorbs the custard better. Feel free to adjust the amount of pumpkin pie spice to your liking. Serve with maple syrup, whipped cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar for an extra treat.
