  • 6 medium apples
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1 tsp red or black food coloring
  • 6 wooden skewers

  • Wash and thoroughly dry the apples, then remove the stems and insert wooden skewers into the stem end of each apple.
  • In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat without stirring.
  • Once the mixture reaches 300°F (150°C), remove it from heat and stir in the food coloring.
  • Carefully dip each apple into the candy mixture, twisting to coat completely, and let excess drip off.
  • Place coated apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet to cool and harden completely.

Notes

For best results, ensure apples are very clean and dry for the candy to adhere properly. Work quickly when dipping apples as the candy hardens fast. If the candy becomes too thick, gently reheat over low heat until it reaches dipping consistency again.
