Main Ingredients

  • 8 slices stale white bread cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage cooked and crumbled
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley for garnish, optional

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and evenly arrange the bread cubes at the bottom.
  • Sprinkle the cooked sausage and 1 ½ cups of cheddar cheese over the bread cubes.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the ingredients in the baking dish and top with the remaining ½ cup of cheddar cheese.

Chilling & Baking

  • Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), then uncover the casserole.
  • Bake for 45-55 minutes until golden brown and set in the center.
  • Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving, and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

For best results, allow the casserole to chill overnight to fully absorb the egg mixture. This recipe is a fantastic make-ahead option for entertaining guests or busy mornings.
