  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • For the brownie layer, melt butter, then whisk in sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  • Stir in flour, cocoa powder, and salt until just combined.
  • Spread the brownie batter evenly into the prepared pan.

Cookie Layer

  • In a separate bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Combine flour, baking soda, and salt, then gradually add to the wet ingredients.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and evenly spread the cookie dough over the brownie layer.

Baking

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs.
  • Cool completely before cutting into squares and decorating with optional Halloween sprinkles and candy eyes.

Notes

For extra Halloween fun, use orange and black sprinkles or food coloring in the cookie dough. Ensure the brookies are completely cooled before cutting to prevent crumbling. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
