  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper or to taste

Optional Add-ins

  • 1 cup Cooked Sausage mild or spicy, browned and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup Dried Cranberries

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and generously grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • If your bread is not already stale, spread the cubes on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes until they are dry.
  • Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat, then add the diced onions and celery and cook until soft, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant, then add the fresh chopped herbs and optional poultry seasoning and cook for another minute.
  • In a large bowl, combine the stale bread cubes with the sautéed aromatic mixture.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken or turkey broth and the eggs.
  • Pour the broth and egg mixture over the bread and aromatics, mixing gently until the bread is evenly moistened but not mushy.
  • If using, fold in the cooked sausage and dried cranberries, then season the mixture with salt and black pepper to taste.
  • Transfer the stuffing mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.

Baking

  • Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and continue to bake for another 20-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

Notes

For the best texture, ensure your bread cubes are thoroughly stale or dried. The stuffing is safely cooked when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Feel free to adjust the amount of salt and pepper to suit your personal taste preferences.
