Equipment

  • paper towels
  • small bowl
  • whisk
  • large skillet or cast-iron pan
  • serving platter

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs sirloin, flank, or tenderloin cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • sesame seeds for garnish, optional
  • green onions for garnish, optional

Instructions

Preparation

  • Pat the steak cubes dry with paper towels to ensure a good sear.

Sauce

  • In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and cornstarch, then whisk until smooth.

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, then sear half of the steak cubes for 2-3 minutes per side until browned.
  • Remove seared steak and repeat with the remaining cubes.
  • Pour the prepared sauce into the hot pan, bring to a simmer, and stir constantly until it thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Return all steak to the pan, toss to coat evenly, and cook for another minute until the sauce adheres and glosses the meat.

Serving

  • Transfer steak bites to a platter and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions, if desired, then serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, do not overcrowd the pan when searing the steak to ensure a proper crust. Adjust honey to taste for desired sweetness in the sauce.
