Equipment

  • medium bowl
  • clear serving dish (9x13 inch baking dish)
  • squeeze bottle or spoon
  • toothpick
  • plastic wrap

Ingredients

The Foundation Layer

  • 1 can Refried Beans (canned or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon Taco Seasoning

The Creamy Layer

  • 8 ounces Cream Cheese (softened)
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream
  • 2 tablespoons Mayonnaise (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder

The Veggie & Cheese Layers

  • 2 cups Shredded Lettuce (iceberg or romaine)
  • 1 cup Diced Tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup Diced Red Onion
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 cup Shredded Monterey Jack Cheese (or a Mexican blend)

The Spooky Toppings

  • 1/2 cup Black Olives (sliced, for the "spiderweb" and "spider" body)
  • 1/2 cup Salsa (for the "spiderweb" lines)
  • 1/4 cup Jalapenos (sliced, optional, for extra kick)
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Cilantro (chopped, for garnish)

Instructions

Prep the Foundation Layer

  • Combine refried beans and taco seasoning in a medium bowl, then spread evenly in a clear serving dish.

Create the Creamy Layer

  • Mix softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise (if desired), garlic powder, and onion powder until smooth. Spread this mixture over the bean layer.

Layer the Freshness

  • Distribute shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and diced red onion evenly over the creamy layer.

Pile on the Cheese

  • Generously sprinkle both shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses over the vegetable layer.

Master the Spiderweb Design

  • Drizzle concentric circles of salsa onto the cheese layer, starting from the center and working outwards.
  • Drag a toothpick from the center outwards through the salsa circles to create a spiderweb effect.
  • Arrange sliced black olives on the salsa web to form spider bodies and legs.
  • Garnish with chopped cilantro and sliced jalapeƱos if desired; cover and chill for at least 30 minutes.

Serve

  • Serve chilled with tortilla chips, vegetable sticks, pita bread, crackers, or warm flour tortillas.

Notes

For best results, prepare the dip a few hours ahead to allow flavors to meld. If making ahead, add the lettuce and cheese layers closer to serving time to prevent sogginess. Get creative with your spider arrangement for an extra spooky touch!
