  • 1-1.5 lbs Ground Meat
  • 3-4 medium Potatoes
  • 1 large Onion
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) Canned Cream Soup
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1-2 cups Cheese
  • Salt and Black Pepper To taste
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tbsp Oil

  • Optional veggies Sliced carrots, frozen peas, corn, or green beans

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch casserole dish.
  • In a large skillet, brown ground meat with oil, breaking it up until cooked through, then drain fat and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Spread half of the thinly sliced or cubed potatoes evenly in the prepared casserole dish and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  • Layer the onions over the potatoes, then spread the seasoned ground meat evenly over the onions.
  • Whisk together the cream soup and milk in a medium bowl until smooth, optionally adding extra seasonings.
  • Pour about half of the creamy soup mixture over the meat and onion layer.
  • Arrange the remaining potatoes over the sauced layer, then pour the rest of the soup mixture evenly over the top.
  • Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake for 45-60 minutes, or until potatoes are tender.
  • Remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheese over the casserole, and bake uncovered for another 15-20 minutes, until cheese is melted and golden.
  • Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving to allow flavors to settle.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider adding a dash of Worcestershire sauce or a pinch of paprika to the soup mixture. Feel free to customize with your favorite shredded cheese and optional vegetables like sliced carrots or frozen peas for added nutrition and color.
