Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Food processor (optional)
  • Sharp knife

Ingredients

Coleslaw

  • 1 medium head green cabbage
  • 2 medium carrots
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1.5 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed Optional

Instructions

Preparation

  • Finely shred the green cabbage and grate the carrots, then combine them in a large mixing bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sugar, milk, lemon juice, white vinegar, salt, black pepper, and optional celery seed until the sugar dissolves.
  • Pour the dressing over the vegetables and toss thoroughly to ensure everything is coated.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or ideally 4 hours, to allow flavors to meld and cabbage to soften.
  • Stir well before serving the coleslaw.

Notes

For the best texture and flavor, make sure to chill the coleslaw for at least 2-4 hours. A food processor with a shredding disc can significantly speed up the cabbage preparation and achieve that perfect fine texture.
