Ingredients

Garlic Bread

  • 1 loaf Crusty Bread (sourdough baguette, rustic Italian loaf, or French bread)

Garlic Herb Butter

  • ½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 4-6 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives finely chopped (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Cheese Topping

  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and slice your chosen bread lengthwise or into thick pieces.
  • In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, optional chives, salt, and black pepper, then mix thoroughly until fragrant.

Assembly and Baking

  • Generously spread the garlic butter mixture over the cut sides of the bread.
  • Place the buttered bread cut-side up on a baking sheet, then toss together mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses and sprinkle evenly over the bread; optionally add red pepper flakes.
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown and bubbly, then broil for 1-2 minutes for extra crispiness, watching carefully.

Serving

  • Remove from the oven, slice into portions, and serve immediately.

Notes

For an extra touch, rub the cut sides of the bread with a raw garlic clove before applying the butter for a more intense garlic flavor. You can also mix in other fresh herbs like oregano or basil into the butter mixture.
