Equipment

  • small bowl
  • large skillet
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • cutting board

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 Hawaiian sweet rolls (12-count) package
  • small yellow onion finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1/2 cup dill pickle slices (thinly sliced or chopped)

For the Special Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of paprika

The Secret Ingredient

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

Prep the Sauce

  • Whisk together all special sauce ingredients in a small bowl, then cover and refrigerate to meld flavors.

Cook the Beef

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), then brown ground beef with diced onion in a large skillet and drain excess grease. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper, cooking for one more minute.

Prepare the Rolls

  • Carefully slice the Hawaiian rolls horizontally, separating the tops from the bottoms, and place the bottom half in a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Assemble the Layers

  • Spread the cooked beef evenly over the bottom rolls, then layer American cheese slices on top, and replace the top half of the rolls.

Apply the Secret Ingredient

  • Combine melted butter, sesame seeds, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl, then generously brush this mixture over the tops of the rolls.

Bake

  • Bake for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the rolls are lightly golden.

Finish and Serve

  • Remove from oven, lift onto a cutting board, and gently separate the tops from the bottoms again. Spread special sauce on the bottom buns, top with lettuce and pickles, then replace the tops, slice into individual sliders, and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can lightly toast the Hawaiian rolls before assembling. Adjust the amount of special sauce to your liking, and feel free to add other burger toppings such as diced tomatoes or crispy onions.
