Equipment

  • Small non-stick pan

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread e.g., whole wheat, sourdough, brioche, or English muffin
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 slice cheese e.g., cheddar, American, provolone
  • 1 slice cooked breakfast meat e.g., ham, bacon, or sausage patty
  • butter or cooking oil A pat of butter or a spray of cooking oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

Instructions

  • Place a small non-stick pan over medium heat. If using, lightly butter one side of each bread slice or spray with cooking oil, then place the bread into the pan to toast.
  • Crack the egg into the other side of the hot pan and season with salt and pepper.
  • If using pre-cooked meat, add it to the pan to warm up. Once the egg white is mostly set, flip the egg and immediately place the cheese slice on top.
  • Once the bread is golden brown, remove it from the pan. As soon as the cheese is melted and bubbly on the egg and the meat is warmed through, transfer them to one slice of toasted bread.
  • Top with the second slice of toasted bread and serve immediately.

Notes

Feel free to customize your sandwich with your favorite ingredients. For a softer egg, cook it undisturbed; for a crispier bottom, cook it directly on the oiled bread.
