  • Microwave-Safe Bowl
  • Rubber Spatula
  • Zip-top Bag (optional)

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 6 cups Chex cereal Rice or Corn, or a mix
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup cherry pie filling pureed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

Preparation

  • Prepare your workspace by getting a large bowl and setting aside an airtight container or a parchment-lined baking sheet for cooling.
  • Melt butter and softened cream cheese in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until completely smooth.
  • Stir in the pureed cherry pie filling and vanilla extract into the melted butter-cream cheese mixture until well combined.
  • Pour the cherry-cheesecake mixture over the Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl, gently folding with a rubber spatula until all cereal is evenly coated.
  • Transfer the coated cereal to a large airtight container or zip-top bag, add powdered sugar, and shake vigorously until the cereal is completely coated.
  • Spread the coated puppy chow onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set the coating.
  • Break apart any clumps after chilling and serve to enjoy this delicious treat.

Notes

For an extra touch, you can add a few drops of red food coloring to the cherry mixture to enhance the color. Ensure the cream cheese is truly softened for a smooth mixture, and don't over mix the cereal to prevent it from breaking apart. You can store leftover puppy chow in an airtight container at room temperature for several days, or in the refrigerator for longer freshness.
