Single Jar Spiced Slow Cooker Apple Butter

- 4-5 medium Apples mix of sweet (Fuji, Gala) and tart (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp)
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 teaspoon, ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon, ground Nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon, ground Cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon, ground Allspice optional
- 1/8 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon, pure Vanilla Extract
- 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

Preparation
- Wash, peel, core, and thinly slice the apples.
- Place the sliced apples into your slow cooker and add brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice (if using), and salt, then stir to coat the apples.
Cooking
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or HIGH for 3-4 hours, until apples are very soft.
- Stir in vanilla extract and apple cider vinegar, then blend until smooth using an immersion blender directly in the slow cooker or in batches with a regular blender.
- For a thicker apple butter, remove the lid and continue to cook on HIGH for another 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally, until desired consistency is reached.
Storage
- Ladle the hot apple butter into a clean, sterile pint-sized jar, then let cool completely to room temperature before sealing and storing.
Notes
For best results, choose a mixture of sweet and tart apples for a balanced flavor. You can adjust the amount of brown sugar to your preference. Store apple butter in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 weeks, or freeze for longer storage.
